Your Treatment: What to Expect at Norfolk Ketamine

No food can be eaten for six hours prior to treatment. No gum, candy, or smoking for 4 hours prior. Water is okay up to two hours before treatment. Once checked in, a low dose of ketamine is infused through an IV over the course of 40 minutes. During this time, the patient will be continually monitored by a nurse and a doctor.

Usually, patients can go home within 20–30 minutes of completion of the infusion.

For patients seeking treatment for mood disorders, the typical protocol includes an initial series of two (2) visits per week, for three (3) weeks, for a total of six (6) infusions. Then, booster infusions are provided every 6 to 12 weeks as needed.

For patients seeking treatment for pain conditions, a typical treatment plan is a series of increasing doses of ketamine infusions over a 3-5 day schedule, which is then repeated the following week. Each infusion is anywhere between 4-6 hours each session. More than one series of infusions may be required to achieve adequate remission of symptoms.
