What to Expect

All patients must undergo a complete physical and mental health workup with Dr. Brian Espinoza. If ketamine is not an appropriate treatment for you, a list of reasonable options will be given to you to present to your personal physician for consideration. If Ketamine is indicated, and/or preferred by you, Dr. Espinoza will send in orders to Herro Medical Center.

You will receive two ketamine treatments spaced apart within 1 week. You will complete a 9 question depression checklist before treatment #1. Also before the first treatment, Dr. Herro will perform a pre-anesthetic exam, review your medical history, and answer any questions you may have.

During the infusion process, Dr. Herro will administer the IV ketamine, monitor the proper dosage, and remain on site. He and his staff will be able to access Dr. Espinoza if there are any questions about the psychiatric aspects of your care.

Approximately 24 hours after your second Ketamine treatment, you complete a follow-up depression checklist at home. Shortly after, Dr. Espinoza contacts you to see how you are feeling overall, and find out the results of your depression checklist. If you are feeling better, and the depression checklist numbers look positive, than you and Dr. Espinoza will design an IV Ketamine treatment schedule for you. Some patients may need followup treatments as little as every 2 to 4 weeks. If no improvement is noted, you go back to step one and review alternatives to IV ketamine.
