Ketamine, in sub-anesthetic doses, has shown remarkable efficiency in treating difficult to manage chronic pain and/or mental health conditions, including struggles with addiction. Recent research has shown it to be a breakthrough psychiatric treatment, as well as having been recognized by the World Health Organization as an essential medicine due to its robust safety profile.

For those for whom it has been effective, ketamine has been a life-changing treatment.

Ken Starr, MD, founded his addiction treatment clinic only months after his brother tragically passed away from a heroin overdose. Recognizing the need for focused treatment centers, and physicians with a cutting-edge knowledge, Dr. Starr opened “a tiny closet-sized office,” and began a journey of over 20 years that has led to the comfortable, private clinic within which he and his team now practice.

With studies emerging from such renowned research centers as Yale University, Harvard University, and Johns Hopkins University, ketamine is bringing new hope and health to a large majority of the patients treated with the medication.

If mainstream oral medications have had little or no effect on your chronic negative symptoms, ketamine therapy may be the path to a new lease on living.

Your Treatment: What to Expect

Over the 40-minute period of the ketamine infusion, patients at the Ken Starr MD Wellness Group often feel a floating sensation, as if disconnected from their bodies. This is a normal sensation for ketamine treatments.

Patients are monitored throughout by a nurse or physician to ensure that the sensations are not becoming uncomfortable. Some patients report positive effects only hours after infusion, though for most the effects take approximately 24 hours to become noticeable.

Who is this treatment for?

Ken Starr MD Wellness Group ketamine treatments are for individuals who have had little to no positive benefits from mainstream antidepressants and pain therapies. Ketamine is a rapid-acting antidepressant, and has shown significant reduction in suicidal ideation very quickly after only one treatment.

For pain or addiction patients, ketamine has allowed patients to decrease their opiate use significantly.
