I travelled very far for this retreat and it was worth it in ways I could never have imagined. Troy and his team worked incredibly hard to make the experience as easy and seamless for me as possible.
This is the type of experience that becomes what you make of it. Mycelia is not for you if you are looking for a slick, impersonal and formulaic experience.
It is for you if you want to surround yourself with people who care, and who are passionate about creating a nurturing and trusting environment.
The villa is gorgeous, the accommodation before and after was clean, rustic, casual and friendly.
I felt incredibly supported and well-looked after throughout my time there. The guides and other staff were dedicated to helping me get what I needed. I will be forever grateful to them.

I came with low expectations and then no expectations, hoping for the best. I chose to have this experience in a culture that was similar to mine for the best chance of a breakthrough that I desperately needed. And it was delivered.
Troy advised me that the mushrooms would take me where I needed to go and he was 100% right. I was taken to the core of my existence in ways that I am still trying to process and understand. For me, the “deep dive” was much harder than I could have imagined and is not for the faint of heart. However, I felt supported and safe. I still marvel at my incredible moonlight beach ceremony by the bonfire. I would highly recommend this retreat.

Unbelievable experience! From the beautiful accommodations at the villa, the wonderful support staff at Mycelia, and to the amazing trip into the jungle… It truly exceeded all of my expectations!

Regarding the mushrooms, I could see how it effected everyone differently, but the from the discussions after, everyone was moved in their own way. Personally, I was able to confront a tragic incident from past. Afterwards, I felt that I had a completely new, and healthier, perspective on the incident.

Even four months later, I am still feeling the positive impact of my experience at Mycelia!!

The Blue Moon retreat in late July was quite an extraordinary experience. The facilitator of this retreat, Troy, was exceptionally accommodating ensuring all aspects of our stay. All was meticulously planned if however changes became neccessary say due to weather conditions for example, there was a ” go with the flow attitude, that allowed activities continue, nevertheless. This suited the small group of six participants. I especially liked the villa chosen for our grand experience, the plentiful yummy Jamaican cuisine, the initial microdosing at the beach, 2nd day stating intentions with ceremony and meditation, and finally the jungle therapy for the full dosing, This experience was greatly anticipated and I am so pleased with the outcome. Special thanks also to Stacy, Jamie, Tanja, and Chef for their contributions at the retreat. Special mention for Veronica who was able to do housekeeping favor.

The most transformative experience of my life. The location chosen for Jungle therapy, where the organizers and facilitators perform the experience is not like any other. It is impossible to describe with words the transformative journey we all went through. We were a group of 5 people. A person with suicidal ideation had a breakthrough moment, another girl was able to get though grieving the loss of her grandmother and I was able to reconnect with myself, my heart and my head, a balance I had lost for a long time. The facilitators are so good at reading our body language and assessing how everyone felt, they’re fantastic. The people there are not in for the money and have huge hearts. The mushrooms they use are crossbred for the highest potency and have an almost DMT like experience It took their mycologist, Jordan, years to perfect the experience he wanted to achieve though them but I definitely think it paid off because the experience is unlike any other. The Yoga sessions everyday were so conductive to the experience and so essential to the preparation part of the experience and their massage therapist has the hands of an angel. I definitely recommend.

Good day, if you’re reading this, we are just commenting as to the one bad review ever received. This person was traumatized by the actions of a guest who was not properly prepared for the journey. Her Panick attack over her husband’s reaction to the mushrooms created a bad trip for everyone. So we addressed that issue with better education before departing on the journey. Check out Google Reviews for an actuate overview of Mycelia.

This is my review of the Mycelia Retreat. April, 2023

After researching magic mushroom retreats in Jamaica, I chose Mycelia mainly because of their low price point. Some say you get what you pay for—in my case I paid dearly for what I got.

I am not one to post negative reviews, but for me the experience was so poorly planned and potentially dangerous that I feel compelled to offer up this report. The staff never presented their Jamaican license to provide psilocybin services. If they do have one, they should post it on their site.

We were a group of five participants, middle aged and older. The first two days we were lodged at a midprice resort in Ocho Rios. At the second dinner we were informed that we were to pack up our belongings to spend the next two days at the Villa, another resort a few miles away. We expressed some opposition at having to uproot ourselves—something that was never mentioned in the retreat description—but the staff did not explain or further consider our preferences.

The next morning, we vacated our rooms and packed our luggage into the van that would transport us to the Villa. When we arrived, the property seemed to be shuttered, with no access to our rooms and no support staff or services available. Our bags—including those that held our passports, cash and other important documents—were left unattended outside in a common area. We were told to prepare for an evening deep in the Jamaican jungle, where we were to ingest 5+ grams of psilocybin, but no guidance was provided about proper clothing, o footwear, insect repellent, water, prescription medications or other concerns.

With our luggage still unsecured in a public space, we were loaded back into the van and driven an hour or more outside Ocho Rios. Our group consisted of the five participants along with three facilitators, a tour driver and a teenage girl whose role was undefined. The van parked a few miles off the main road, and we were instructed to take 2-3 grams of psilocybin gummies before beginning a downhill trek of about half an hour. Dusk had settled in by the time we reached their ceremonial spot, a bamboo grove beside the White River. A circle of chairs was set up and psilocybin tea of 3-5 grams was distributed to the group. The sound therapy extravaganza began which was chanting from a portable boom box and a facilitator hitting a gong and drums. For me, being in such an isolated spot created a very unsettling environment. There was nothing safe, familiar or comforting about this set and setting.

No one in our group except the driver remained drug free and sober. The medicine started taking effect, but I was unable to relax and allow the mushrooms to guide me on the mindful journey I had been looking forward to. Additional mushrooms were distributed to participants and facilitators during the evening without any gauge to the dosage we were ingesting. Throughout the evening, the behavior of some participants and facilitators became increasingly chaotic. One participant began experiencing symptoms of severe hypoglycemia. and demanded to be transported to a medical facility in town. That participant and their spouse left in the vehicle that was supposed to transport us back to the tour van. The departure of the driver meant no one remaining with the group was drug free.

Another participant started experiencing symptoms of hyperventilation, causing serious concern about their medical condition. Around two hours passed before a rescue vehicle belonging to the landowners arrived and took us to their farm. There we attended as best we could to the participant in medical distress and waited another hour or more for the tour van to take us back to town. The scene at the farm was chaotic, and the landowners’ dogs were upset and barking constantly. The landowners were very gracious, but I were very aware that we were imposing on a family late on a Sunday evening. As I waited to be transported back to town, I thought, Here I sit, just a self-absorbed privileged white person disrespecting the medicine and imposing my sense of entitlement upon the world. Shame on me.

Finally the tour van arrived and transported us back to Ocho Rios, where we could provide a stable environment for the person experiencing hyperventilation. The following morning, I immediately arranged for a taxi to transport me away from this nightmare. I could not imagine spending another hour at this retreat.

Since then, I have had other experiences with magic mushroom retreats in Jamaica. At a fraction of the cost of the Mycelia retreat, these experiences were filled with love and run by experienced licensed, caring, dedicated professionals who provided me with a truly positive life-changing experience.
