CRTCE, short for the Canadian Rapid Treatment Center of Excellence, is Canada’s first specialized ketamine clinic. It offers patients cutting-edge ketamine therapy treatments to help battle treatment-resistant chronic conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. There are three ways patients can receive ketamine therapy at the clinic: intravenously, intranasally, and orally. The right treatment for each patient will be decided following a thorough consultation.

The experienced team of medical professionals at the CRTCE provides a patient-first approach to ketamine therapy. By doing so, they can tailor each treatment plan to the individual which leads to the best results possible. By being the first in Canada to specialize in ketamine therapy, the clinic is paving the way for breakthrough treatment options.

Offered Treatments

  • Intravenous (IV) Ketamine
  • Intranasal (IN) Ketamine
  • Oral Ketamine Tablets

Treated Conditions

  • Major Depressive Disorder
  • Bipolar Depression
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) will be considered on a case-to-case basis

Important Info

  • The age eligibility for ketamine at the CRTCE is 18-65.
  • Any one of your doctors may be able to submit a referral for an assessment to the CRTCE.
  • Referrals are assessed by the treatment team at the CRTCE within 2-3 business days. Subsequent to that, if eligible, an appointment for an initial assessment will be made for you within 2-6 weeks.
  • Your initial assessment at the CRTCE would be covered by OHIP.
  • Ketamine treatments themselves are not covered by OHIP. Costs vary, and since insurance providers rarely cover these treatments, it’s best to check with your carrier beforehand.

Your Treatment: What to Expect at the CRTCE

Getting Started

A referral can be made by your healthcare provider on the CRTCE’s referral page. Staff at the CRTCE will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your psychiatric history, medical history, and family history. Moreover, a full list of all previous treatments taken will need to be determined to ensure you have a treatment-resistant disorder. Once you have been determined to be eligible for ketamine therapy, an appointment time will be scheduled for you.

Ketamine Treatment

IV Ketamine infusions are given over 40 minutes. Post infusion, patients will be required to stay up to 30 minutes of recovery time. Patients who receive intranasal ketamine are required to stay 2 hours at the clinic.

For IV Ketamine, the acute treatment phase consists of 4 to 6 infusions over a course of 2 weeks. For esketamine, the acute treatment phase consists of 2 intranasal administrations per week for 2 to 4 weeks.
