Refugio Altiplano in Iquitos, Peru logo

For over two decades, the team at Refugio Altiplano have been giving their guests a truly life-changing experience through ayahuasca ceremonies (according to the testimonials, anyway.) There are different retreat stay lengths available so guests can choose their own adventure when it comes to their healing journey. They can choose from 12-day, 9-day, or 7-day retreats.

Refugio Altiplano also offers guests the option to try an authentic immersion experience. This gives them the opportunity to stay for 26 days and envelope themselves in everything the retreat has to offer. During the immersive experience, guests have many options, including studying shamanism and ayahuasca medicine, eating a shaman diet, and participating in 15 ayahuasca ceremonies.

Refugio Altiplano has two shamans: Jose Huanaquiri who has decades of experience and is a Mestizo Ayahuascero and Rosendo Marin Lopez, who is from the Shipibo tradition.

Guests should understand the risks of self-medicating with psychedelics. This gives a better idea as to why medical professionals are best trusted for this type of therapy. And why the future of psychedelics looks so positive when administered correctly.

As always, we recommend doing additional research into any retreat you may be considering. There are many retreats across South America, and each has its own unique way of doing things. Some may be better suited to your needs and interests than others. Always check out their website (especially any ceremony videos they may have posted) as well as give them a call. It’s always great to speak to an actual human who can answer your questions. That way you’ll know if Refugio Altiplano is right for you.
